Why are the webmasters transferring unclaimed boxes?
I know that in my area there are a couple of orphan boxes that the
owner either doesn't have an interest in letterboxing or doesn't
have an interest in that box. I feel that the owner should make the
claim and do the tranfer.
Wouldn't it be a good time to clear out the junk?

There are some really nice and/or "famous" boxes that would
otherwise be lost. E.G., Der Mad Stampers boxes (mostly in Oregon).

Could be that the person who placed the box just doesn't participate
in the talk list and so is blissfully unaware of the changes taking
place? I know I went all winter without reading the board...
Unless someone knows that a box is no longer in place or is ruined,
why not let people hunt for it.
Or maybe I missed the point?!

That is the problem, and numerous folks have stated that the boxes
or stamps are missing and the owners are no longer available. Why
put the clues out there again? The webmasters don't know which clues
are missing boxes and who has left the letterboxing game. Yes, they
do know the famous or unique ones because these clues and/or stamps
are talked on this list.
I am just curious.:)

As long as the boxes are still there in their hiding spots, why not transfer
them? Just more boxes to find :-)

If there is truly talk on the list that a box is missing, then, I feel as
though a tag can be placed on the clues by the moderators that it may be
missing. That way, if someone really wants to go and find the box, they
still can, but are warned that it may be missing. From what I hear, there
was a box tagged as missing, then was surprisingly found come April.
